LOCband Lite Helmet Therapy for Flat Head Syndrome
If repositioning alone has not been sufficient, or your baby’s head shape is moderate to severe, Cranial Remoulding Therapy with the LOCband Lite is an effective, non-invasive option.
What is Cranial Remoulding Therapy?
The LOCband Lite applies gentle, constant pressure to the prominent areas of the skull, whilst leaving space in the flatter areas to allow natural growth to fill in. As your baby’s head grows, it is gradually guided into a more rounded, symmetrical shape. The process is completely pain-free, and most babies adapt to wearing the helmet within a day or two.
The LOCband Lite
The LOCband Lite is manufactured by the London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC) in Kingston, UK — the only 3D-printed cranial remoulding helmet made in the UK. LOC is registered with the MHRA as a bespoke manufacturer. Key features:
Approximately 40% lighter than earlier helmets, making it more comfortable throughout the day and night
Every helmet is made from a precise 3D scan of your baby’s head
Backed by clinical research and years of real-world outcomes
Can be custom painted — many families personalise their baby’s helmet, making the experience more fun
Painted helmets are really fun and can be customised to whatever you like!
Treatment is most effective between 4 and 7 months, when the skull is growing rapidly. We have successfully treated babies up to 16 months old. We do not recommend starting before 3–4 months (unless the head shape is very severe), as repositioning is the more appropriate first step at that stage. Treatment typically lasts 3–6 months,(but can be longer for older babies or a very severe head shape) with most babies wearing the helmet for approximately 22–23 hours per day.
The Treatment Journey
Here is how the process works:
● Book a free assessment from 3.5 months ● Lucy measures your baby’s head and assesses severity. If craniosynostosis or hydrocephalus is suspected, she will refer you to your GP immediately. ● If helmet therapy is recommended, a detailed 3D scan is taken and sent to LOC. ● The helmet is fitted approximately 2 weeks later, with fine adjustments made on the day. ● Review appointments every 2–4 weeks throughout treatment — on average 10 appointments in total. ● Final assessment and discharge once the shape goal is reached.
Caring for the Helmet
Wipe the inside and outside daily with the cleaning fluid provided or a mild soap solution. Allow it to air and dry
fully before putting it back on your baby. Full written guidance is provided at fitting. If your baby has a fever,
remove the helmet until their temperature returns to normal, then wean back gradually over a few days.
Money-Back Guarantee
For babies who begin treatment before 12 months of age, we offer a full money-back guarantee if there is no
significant improvement in head shape, provided the helmet has been worn as recommended. We are confident in the
results — but we want you to feel confident too.
